Beginning in March, St. Paul hosted a six-week nutrition/cooking class taught by Tenaya Hergert, SNAP-Ed Coordinator for Washington State University Extension.
The free class is aimed at families who receive benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program known as SNAP. Each week the class discussed nutrition information presented in a workbook and videos and worked together cooking a nutritious recipe.
Due to forward thinking many years ago by Ernie and Margaret Roller through funds left to Thrifty Nifty Cooking or its successor, St Paul was able to provide support by purchasing the workbooks, some groceries for recipes, and incentives for attending all classes in the form of gift certificates to Bredfield’s Hardware to purchase cooking items.
Future classes are planned.
